pain and gain

With little competition this week at theaters, Michael Bay's "Pain and Gain" easily took the weekend.

Robert De Niro's star-studded "The Big Wedding" featuring Susan Sarandon, Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams, and Topher Grace was a massive flop at theaters.

The film was the lowest debut for Robin Williams since 2006's "The Night Listener."

While the box-office was overall pretty quiet this weekend, it was soaring overseas.

"Iron Man 3" doesn't hit theaters until Friday in the U.S., but it has already taken in a huge $195 million internationally so far—$10 million more than "The Avengers" opening abroad last year.

Out of the top ten this week are the "Evil Dead" reboot and Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful," one week before its next big film hits theaters.

"Oz" is currently the highest-grossing film of the year, earning $481 million worldwide.

Here are this week's winners and losers in Hollywood:

10. "Jurassic Park" falls one spot this week to round out the top ten with $2.3 million. The 3D reboot of the film has taken in $42 million in the US since its premiere four weekends ago.

9.  Ryan Gosling's "The Place Beyond the Pines" moved down three spots this week earning $2.7 million. The indie film has gone on to earn $16 million.

8. "Olympus Has Fallen" also moves down another spot in week six with $2.8 million. The Gerard Butler film has earned just under $100 million at theaters.

7. "Scary Movie 5" takes a 43.8% dip at theaters with in $3.5 million this weekend. Lindsay Lohan's spoof has not been faring well in theaters, earning $37.6 million—the least of any film in the franchise.

6. "G.I. Joe Retaliation" makes a slow descent down the box-office top ten earning $3.6 million in week five. The film, starring The Rock, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum has earned a big $349 million worldwide.

5. With no other kid's competition in theaters, "The Croods" continues its ride at theaters earning another $6.6 million. DreamWorks Animations' movie following a cavemen family has earned more than $468 million worldwide and already has a sequel in sights.

4. No amount of star power was going to help Robert De Niro's "The Big Wedding." The Lionsgate comedy took in $7.5 million opening weekend. The film cost an estimated $35 million to produce.

3. Warner Bros. Jackie Robinson biopic, "42," adds another 155 theater seats this weekend, bringing in a total of $10.7 million in week three. The film has earned $69 million so far at theaters.

2. Tom Cruise's "Oblivion" has a strong second week with $17.4 million. The second feature film for Joseph Kosinski ("Tron: Legacy") has already earned a total of $198.8 million worldwide. With the summer blockbuster slate coming fast and hard starting next weekend, it will be tough for the film to continue cruising at theaters.

1. Mark Wahlberg's "Pain and Gain" won the weekend, but just barely beat out "Oblivion" with $20 million. The Michael Bay film, also featuring The Rock cost an estimated $26 million to make.

Why The Rock Is The Most Successful Athlete-Turned-Movie Star Ever

pain and gainAsk a group of pro wrestling fans to name their favorite lord of the ring and you might get 10 different answers.

Older fans grew up idolizing Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and "Nature Boy" Ric Flair while newer fans might list Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena.

Yet ask those same people to pick their favorite wrestler-turned-movie star and the decision gets a whole lot easier.

There's only one choice.

Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, has starred in three movies over the past three months, "Snitch,""G.I Joe: Retaliation" and "Pain & Gain," and each film took the top spot at the box office its opening weekend.

His next movie, "Fast & Furious 6," will have to face down "The Hangover Part III" and "Epic" to keep that streak alive, but no one questions whether it will be a hit. Every film in the franchise has been, and early projections suggest the only question is whether it will hit $500 million, $750 million or $1 billion worldwide.

the rock wrestling WWEJohnson is currently in the midst of a streak unheard of not only in the history of former wrestlers but also other athletes who tried to cross over into the film business. Hogan, Cena, Shaq and even O.J. Simpson made a few movies, but none of them became a bona fide movie star. (Note: One sage reader pointed out that we forgot about Johnny Weissmuller. After winning five Olympic gold medals for swimming, Weissmuller became "Tarzan." How could we forget that yell?)

"Everyone sitting in my chair is trying to work with Dwayne," Jeff Kirschenbaum, co-president of production at Universal, which has released five movies starring Johnson, told TheWrap. "I don't think he’s having a moment. This isn't his 15 seconds of fame. He now has enough experience and craftsmanship that it's going to be a long run."

Also ReadVFX Flap Over Dwayne Johnson's 'Hercules' Work Going to U.K.

While this isn't the first time Johnson has been atop the box office, this is his first uninterrupted string of hits. His early films ranged from financially successful ("The Scorpion King,""The Game Plan,""The Tooth Fairy") to disappointing ("Doom,""The Rundown").

"I don't know that no one took him seriously because of wrestling, but he's the only person who has ever truly emerged out of that," an individual close to Johnson, who declined to be identified, told TheWrap.

So how did this happen? How did a former football player and member of the inimitable Rock 'n' Sock Connection became one of the most successful actors working today?

It starts with protein.

Also ReadBox Office Burning Questions - Will "Fast & Furious 6" or "Hangover III" Disappoint?

"He wakes up at 4 a.m. just so he can eat protein," Kirschenbaum, skinny as the Rock is broad, said. "He goes back to bed for an hour and at 5 a.m. he works out – when most people aren’t even awake. He woke up an hour early just so the protein is already there to build muscle."

"This isn't his 15 seconds of fame. He now has enough experience and craftsmanship that it's going to be a long run."— Jeff Kirschenbaum, co-president of production at Universal

Johnson's morning routine has become a Hollywood legend, alongside Sean Penn’s partying and Amanda Bynes' drunk driving.

Ask anyone who's worked with Johnson why he has succeeded where others have failed and they jump to tell a story about those pre-dawn workouts. It’s what Ric Roman Waugh, who directed Johnson in "Snitch," dubbed the actor’s "sweat equity."

"A lot of people can say 'we worked hard and can stay up late’," Waugh said. "But if they could only understand the amount of stuff he’s putting into one day, it’s astounding. The sky could be falling in his world, but in that moment you need him to focus, he’s 100 percent with you."

That workload has only increased over the past two years. Since resurrecting his wrestling career in 2012, Johnson has expanded his film and TV work. Not only is he starring in several movies this year, but he just produced his first film, "Snitch," and is about to host a competition show on TNT, "The Hero."

When he first decided to try his hand at acting, Johnson retired from the WWE at the height of his popularity.  Yet his specific wrestling personality explains why Johnson found his way in Hollywood where the likes of Hogan and Cena did not.

Like most any other wrestler, he can use his hands or a two-by-four to destroy someone. He demonstrated as much in early films like "The Scorpion King," where he played a mercenary, and "Walking Tall," where he played a veteran eager to rid his town of corruption.

Kirschenbaum described those early performances as "raw," and those early characters as two-dimensional. That is where the career path of most former pro wrestlers both started and stopped.

"Most wrestlers have been straight-forward characters or amped up versions of the real individual," Adi Shankar, producer of "The Grey" and an avid wrestling fan, told TheWrap. "Hulk Hogan acted in a bunch of B-movies playing Hulk Hogan."

Instead, Johnson and his representatives experimented from the get-go, taking roles most wrestlers would not want to touch.

He played the straight man next to Sean William Scott in "The Rundown," which also called for him to get dry humped by a gaggle of baboons.

He then played a gay bodyguard in "Be Cool," and later entered the family area with "Tooth Fairy" and "Journey 2." All of his hits in 2013 feature action scenes, but "Snitch" is an adult drama and "Pain & Gain" is as quirky as a Michael Bay movie comes.

"Most action stars out there would never ever break their brand," Waugh, a former stunt man, said. "They would read a script and see a scene where they get beat down and say the guy has to punch me at least 10 times and hit me with a bat 14 times. Dwayne is completely fearless."

Unlike most of his peers, Johnson’s popularity in wrestling was never predicated on physical prowess or intimidation.

"Stone Cold would get over because he’d beat everyone up. Shawn Michaels was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Mick Foley would just do crazy stuff," Shankar said. "The Rock got over because he was funny. You take humor out of the Rock and you don’t have anything."

Shankar can remember when he first fell in love with The Rock. The Undertaker, one of the largest, most intimidating wrestlers in the WWE, had just battered and bruised the former football player. At the next event, The Rock came out and challenged him.

"He said 'Undertaker, you think you impress The Rock with your Mickey Mouse tattoos?' He acted like the Undertaker’s goal in life was to come out and impress The Rock," Shankar recalled. "He wasn’t a heavyweight champion at this point – just a guy coming up. The Undertaker had been around for a decade."

He was a showman first and a wrestler second.

"No matter how bad the show was, The Rock could cut a promo and save it," Shankhar said. "He could get on the mic and speak for three minutes and save a bad show."

Some claim the same now applies to poorly received films, with some dubbing Johnson franchise Viagra. Did your last sequel fail? Hire Johnson.

Some, like Waugh, love this term. Yet many chafe against the idea that Johnson saved their movies, believing it disrespectful to the previous success of the franchises he joined.

Whether Viagra or a supporting hand, there is one thing all directors and studio executives can agree on.

"My biggest concern on my next movie is that he’s not in it," Waugh said.

What does it take to play a real-life demi-god?

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shared his diet for the next 22 weeks while filming next year's "Hercules" with his 5 million Twitter followers.

It consists of 7 meals per day, plenty of protein, vegetables, and a whole lot of eggs.

Lion's blood optional.

Here's all food lined up in the fridge. The Rock's also allowed a shake (protein, we're sure).

"Hercules: The Thracian Wars" comes from director Brett Ratner ("Horrible Bosses,""X-Men: The Last Stand") and is due in theaters July 25, 2014.

Over the past few weeks, The Rock has been teasing photos from the set of the new film for fans.

According to The Rock, it takes 3 hours to get ready in hair and makeup.

Robert Downey Jr. Tops Forbes' List Of Highest-Paid Actors

Iron Man 1Forbes has named Robert Downey Jr. the highest-paid actor of the past year.

That shouldn't come as a shock considering the superhero actor just came off two huge hits, "Iron Man 3" and last year's "The Avengers."

Combined, both films generated $2.7 billion — with a B— at the box office worldwide.

Downey Jr. was the highest-paid star of "The Avengers" with a large $50 million paycheck.

Disney just renegotiated his contract to appear in the next two "Avengers" sequels— and it's not difficult to see why. No one else could play Tony Stark.

According to Forbes, the actor is worth $75 million from June 2012-2013.

Noticeably missing from the top list is Christian Bale, who's final Batman installment brought in a big $1 billion last year.

Here are a look at the other men who made the list this year.

2. Channing Tatum: $60 million

magic-mike-channing-tatum

No surprise here.

The once hip-hop star of "Step Up," was in three huge movies last year including "Magic Mike" and "21 Jump Street."

"Magic Mike" was a huge box-office win earning $167 million worldwide. The film cost Warner Bros. $7 million to make. Both films already have sequels in the works.

3. Hugh Jackman: $55 million

les miserables hugh jackman

Last year's Oscar-nominated "Les Miserables" earned more than $437 million worldwide.

Jackman returns to theaters at the end of the month as the Wolverine.

4. Mark Wahlberg: $52 million

Ted movie

Wahlberg starred in "Ted" which became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy.

Next up, he'll be in the next "Transformers" film due out next year.

5. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson: $46 million

With so many other big actors gaining attention, it may have been easy for The Rock to quietly pass by unnoticed.

However, the one-time wrestler has had a bunch of box-office hits in the past year including "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,""Pain and Gain" (with Wahlberg), and Universal's "Fast & Furious 6."

He's currently working on his next big film, "Hercules."

6. Leonardo DiCaprio: $39 million

Who would have thought "The Great Gatsby" would be bigger than "Pacific Rim"?

The latest adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's prized novel surprised at theaters bringing in a big first weekend with $50 million.

Now, the Baz Luhrmann film has earned $327 million to date.

7. Adam Sandler: $37 million

adam sandler grown ups 2

Disregarding Sandler's dud "That's My Boy," the comedian put out successful animated film "Hotel Transylvania" which earned $347 million worldwide.

His latest film, "Grown Ups 2" also made a splash at theaters opening weekend with $42.5 million.

8. Tom Cruise: $35 million

jack reacher

Despite "Jack Reacher" not taking off in the states, Cruise is still a big win overseas. The film earned more than $136 million at the foreign box office.

9. Denzel Washington: $33 million

Washington was in last year's Oscar-nominated film "Flight" which made just under $162 million worldwide.

10.Liam Neeson: $32 million

Everyone's favorite father-on-a-mission to save his kidnapped family members returned to the big screen last October in "Taken 2." The film earned a massive $376 million on an estimated $45 million budget.

Fox already announced "Taken 3" with the actor set to receive $20 million to reprise his role.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Has Finally Chosen Which DC Comics Character He Will Play

$

dwayne the rock johnson black adam

It's official! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is finally joining the DC Universe.

Johnson announced on Twitter that he will play antihero Black Adam in a future Warner Bros.' film.

Last month, the Associated Press reported that Johnson was up for two roles, that of superhero Shazam and his nemesis Black Adam.

Johnson has been vocal on Twitter about his involvement in a "Shazam" movie for some time. Back in March, the actor cited Black Adam as his favorite comic character, so it shouldn't be a big surprise he opted for the darker role.

For those unfamiliar with the characters, both are pretty similar to DC's other popular superhero, Superman

Shazam is actually a young boy named Billy Batson who can turn into a grown-up superhero as fast as he can say the word, you guessed it, Shazam. Upon speaking the word, he's bestowed with the powers of six Gods. Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian prince who once had the same powers as Baston but became consumed by his want for more power. As you could guess, he and Shazam aren't on the best of terms. Adam's basically bent on destroying Shazam.

In recent years, DC Comics' has rewritten the character as an antihero seeking to reclaim his name as opposed to a straight-out villain.

It's a smart move for Warner Bros. since Marvel has previously found success with its antihero character, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston on screen. The "Thor" character has quickly become one of Marvel's most popular characters. An appearance by Hiddleston at last year's San Diego Comic-Con sent fans into a frenzy.

Variety reports Warner Bros. is already moving forward with a "Shazam" movie with Darren Lemke ("Jack the Giant Slayer") writing the script and Hiram Garcia ("Hercules") producing.

Warner Bros. has already registered a domain for ShazamMovie.com which redirects to a Warner Bros.' page.

It seems like a bit of a misstep for Warner Bros. who could have taken advantage of announcing the news at San Diego Comic-Con in July rather than allowing Johnson to break the news in a tweet.

The Rock's 'Shazam' Movie Will Be Different Than Any Other Comic Movies

$

shazamWith titles like Guardians of the Galaxy and the Iron Man trilogy, Marvel Studios has done an excellent job cornering the market for action-packed blockbusters with plenty of jokes and lighter entertainment, but now it seems like DC Comics and Warner Bros. are ready to start battling in the same arena. Earlier today we got news that Dwayne Johnson has been confirmed to play Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie, but what you may not know is that the film will differentiate itself from titles like Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight by being more of a fun adventure story.

New details about the Shazam movie have emerged thanks to the folks at Entertainment Weekly, who recently had the chance to chat with New Line president Toby Emmerich about what we can expect from the film (yes, this title is being made by the WB subsidiary New Line, not Warner Bros. proper). While the executive couldn't provide any plot or release date information for the project, what he did add to the conversation is that the tone of the feature will be different from all of the other comic book movies out in theaters. Said Emmerich,

"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies."

What's slightly bizarre about this quote is that Shazam is a Justice League character in the comics, and has been so - off and on - since the late 1980s. Perhaps even more importantly, he has also been included as part of the Justice League in the New 52 comics, which is said to be a an influence on the growing DC Cinematic Universe. It's possible that Emmerich is saying that Shazam wasn't a founding member of the Justice League, but his phrasing is still a bit awkward.

dwayne the rock johnson black adamAs for what we can expect from the Black Adam set to be portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, Emmerich didn't give up any juicy details, but he did make another interesting choice of words describing him. While Johnson has said that he enjoys Black Adam's presence in DC Comics as an anti-hero, the New Line President paints the costumed character instead as more of an antagonist. Said Emmerich,

"Black Adam is a complex character. The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne’s take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun."

It doesn't sound like Shazam has actually found a director yet, but the studio has hired Darren Lemke to start working on a script. The screenwriter previously worked with New Line to make the Bryan Singer-directed Jack The Giant Slayer, but his other credits include the animated features Turbo and Shrek Forever After, as well as the upcoming Goosebumps movie starring Jack Black.

In the comics, Shazam is actually a young boy named Billy Batson who can turn into an adult superhero by just saying "Shazam!" - the name of the wizard who granted him his powers and an acronym for the sources of his greatest abilities (Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury). We expect this to be a very active project over the next few years, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates!

Everything We Know So Far About 'Transformers 5'

$

optimus prime transformers 4Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction was meant to be the start of a newtrilogy. Gone were Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, replaced by Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor. And with Bay behind the "wheel" of this massive sequel, the fourth Transformers movie did what previous Transformers movies have done: disappointed critics while earning boatloads of money

Despite the fact that the formula continues to work, Paramount has promised sweeping changes for the Transformers franchise by the time Transformers 5 rolls into theaters. Since massive pieces already are moving into place on the upcoming sequel, we figured now was a great time to get the lay of the land and catch you up on everything we know about the ongoing cinematic battle between the Autobots, the Decepticons, and mankind.

Michael Bay

michael bay samsung CES 2014Love him or hate him, Michael Bay has been the face of the Transformers franchise, the driving creative force since Paramount unveiled the inspired-by-toys franchise in 2007. But from early indicators, Bay will move away from the massive robot series with the next movie. He recently told USA Today that he has different plans that don’t include Transformers movies, stating, "There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles." That being said, Bay wavered on his interest in the Transformers series prior to settling in for Age of Extinction, and he cleansed his palette with Pain & Gain before stepping back behind the camera and staying with the series. Could Bay change his mind and direct Transformers 5? Absolutely. Something tells me if he left, he’d miss that classic give-and-take he has with fanboys and critics.

Mark Wahlberg

transformers mark wahlberg bumblebeeSpeaking of Pain & Gain, it was Michael Bay’s collaboration with Mark Wahlberg on that film that led to the Happening actor taking a lead role in Transformers: Age of Extinction. But will Wahlberg and his character, Cade Yeager, stay in the story if Michael Bay moves on? It’s possible – original star Shia LaBeouf carried the initial trilogy – but unlikely. Right now, all casting is limited to rumors (as Paramount hasn’t confirmed anything), but during promotion for Transformers: Age of Extinction, Wahlberg explained to the media that he didn’t view that movie as a sequel, and that he "thought of it more as a stand-alone thing. I’ve never done a sequel." Which is true. Would he start now, for Transformers 5? He could, sure. If the price is right, and the story is there, Mark Wahlberg could be convinced to come back. Having him on the marquee helps. But the belief on Transformers has usually been that the robots sell tickets, not the all-star cast. So a new director could mean a new direction for Transformers 5, and that might mean a departure for Mark Wahlberg, as well.

Release Date

bumblebee transformers 4 age of extinctionParamount will have to make a decision on the director and possible star(s) of Transformers 5 rather quickly, because the sequel already has a release date. At CineEurope earlier this year, Paramount Pictures International SVP Edward Ryan confirmed the release date of June 24, 2016. This should come as no surprise. TheTransformers movies have enjoyed the weekend leading into the July 4 weekend, giving themselves plenty of run up to what has become a lucrative box-office weekend in years past. Will that date stick? Probably, though it is worth reporting that the usually reliable Box Office Mojo has no listing for Transformers 5 on that date. The only summer 2016 release they have from the studio is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 on June 3, 2016, while Universal has The Mummy (2016) down forTransformer 5’s weekend. So we’ll see if anything changes between now and then.

The Screenwriter

transformers grimlockWith a release date in their sites, Paramount has started the process on gettingTransformers 5 into production, and that begins with a screenwriter. For this, they have tapped Ehren Kruger to once again manage the ongoing adventures of the Autobots and Decepticons (according to IMDB). In a recent interview with Collider, Kruger admitted that the team works on one story at a time, but they always "certainly (are) laying the building blocks for some other stories we have in the back of our heads." To that, he added, "I have a Transformers 5 in my head. Whether that will be what Transformers 5 is, or I will work on it, who knows at this point?" That comment was followed by explanations about how Michael Bay, in the creative process, often changes – drastically – what the screenwriter pitches. Kruger says that his idea for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was "a totally different story" than the one that ended up on the screen. But the writers’ strike contributed to that change up. A director switch at the helm of Transformers 5 could damage the work that Ehren Kruger is doing at this moment. We’re hoping that Paramount hires someone, quickly, who can collaborate with the screenwriter and deliver theTransformers movie fans have been waiting for.

Megan Fox

transformers megan fox Because the future direction of Transformers 5 is unknown at the moment, rumors have been circulating about what could happen… and what fans might really want to happen. One particular rumor that generated real heat recently was the idea that Megan Fox might return to the franchise as Mikaela Banes, arm candy to Shia LaBeouf’s Sam. Now, keep in mind that Megan Fox left the Transformers series after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And she had a public blowout with Michael Bay at the time, referring to him as Hitler in the press. It’s hard to come back from that. However, fans hoping for a reunion point out that Bay hired Fox to play April O’Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which he produced. The two appear to be on friendly working terms, and with Bay remaining on as executive producer forTransformers 5, there’s a chance Fox could stray back. Why would she? Well, because her movie career hasn’t exactly taken off after leaving the Transformersseries. The rumors suggest that Paramount would like a familiar face from the franchise to help sell Transformers 5 to fans. And have you seen Shia Labeouf lately?

A G.I. Joe Crossover Movie

Dwayne Johnson The RockThe other prevailing rumor swirling around in the heads of Transformers 5 fans is that Paramount might want to boost both of its toy-based action franchise by combining them together in a Transformers / G.I. Joe mash-up movie. Can you imagine Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis going toe-to-toe with Optimus Prime? That’s the stuff of legend. But in an interview with Total Film, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura went so far as to call it a "possibility" before throwing cold water on the hopes of fans. "I don't think [it’s] in the near future at all," he explained. "It's not something we talk about either. There's a lot more story to be told in both cases. And I think if at some moment we think, ‘You know what? It's time to bring the two of them together,’we'll do that. But I think they're strong enough to exist on their own." So this team up isn’t likely for Transformers 5, but maybe a few years down the road? Hold out hope.

The Rock is 6'5". But that's nothing compared to China's Sun Ming Ming, a 7'9" basketball player.

The pair took a photo together while The Rock was in China promoting his movie, Hercules. Ming Ming is one of the tallest basketball players ever. And it shows. He wears size 20 shoes and weighs 370 pounds.

It's similar to this photo of Shaq, who is 7'1", next to his 5'3" girlfriend.

dwayne the rock johnsonDwayne Johnson recently went back to his wrestling roots when he made an appearance at the WWE Royal Rumble

He has come a long way since those early days.

In fact, most people today recognize Johnson for his big blockbuster movies, not his wrestling alter ego. Thanks to franchises like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Fast and the Furious," Johnson has been able to seamlessly make a massive career transition.

He has been very successful, too. His movies combined have made over $1 billion, which is not an easy feat for anyone, former wrestling superstar or not.

Frank Pallotta contributed to an earlier version of this slideshow.

Before he was "The Rock," Dwayne Johnson was born May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California.

Wrestling is in Johnson's blood. His father, Rocky "Soul Man" Johnson, was a member of the first African-American tag-team champions and his grandfather, Peter Maivia, was one of the first Samoan wrestlers.

Johnson didn't go straight to wrestling. His first sport was football. After starring in high school he played in college for the Miami Hurricanes. Over his tenure at the school, Johnson started just once but appeared in 39 games and had 77 tackles, and he was a part of the 1991 national championship team.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently debuted a poster for his upcoming disaster movie "San Andreas."

The poster shows Johnson heading down into the depths of a giant fissure caused by a series of earthquakes pummeling the West coast.

Here's a better look:

San Andreas poster

We couldn't help but notice the new poster looked very similar to another piece of marketing for a previous Warner Bros.' hit.

Take a look at the poster for 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises" which made over $1 billion at theaters.

Both posters draw viewer's eyes in with cut out shapes.

This isn't the first time the cut out design has been used in movie marketing.

This poster from Paramount for "Star Trek Into Darkness" borrowed a similar theme tonally with a cut out of the Starfleet Insignia.

ROUSEY ROCK 4

UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, fresh off her 14-second victory over Cat Zingano, showed up at WWE's Wrestlemania on Sunday in Santa Clara, California.

Rousey joined forces with The Rock to take on Stephanie McMahon and Triple H in a segment that bridged the worlds of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts.

The Rock surprised fans by interrupting Triple H and Stephanie McMahon after the real-life married couple went on a verbal tirade wherein they reminded the fans that they have full control of the WWE. After The Rock dissented, McMahon slapped him in the face and dared him to retaliate.

The Rock appeared to be leaving the ring area, but he then walked ringside and got Rousey to jump over the barricade and confront Triple H and McMahon in the ring with him. After more verbal abuse from McMahon, Rousey got physical with the WWE brass, powerfully hip-tossing 265-pound Triple H and putting Stephanie McMahon in a submission hold.
